Your microwave can be a lifesaver if you are short of time. You just put the plate inside, press some buttons, and wait a few minutes. So easy! Right?
However, your microwave can get dirty in the blink of an eye. It gets worse when you neglect to clean it for too long because splatters and grease will stick on over time—and you’ll spend all that time you saved cooking.
But this chore doesn’t have to be hard! Check out these tips to make microwave cleaning easier for you.
Tip #1. Wash the turntable separately
You don’t have to clean the whole microwave in one go! The part most likely to get dirty is the turntable; that’s where all the spills happen.
The sooner you can clean the mess, the better. Whenever a spill happens, remove the turntable and wash it separately. All you need is a sponge and some soapy water. Even wiping the turntable with paper towels will do the trick!
Tip #2. Use lemon juice
Yes, you read that right. You can clean a dirty microwave with lemon juice! Using lemons is a natural, quick, and easy way to clean your microwave—all it takes is lemon juice and water.
Here’s how you do it:
- Pour water and the juice of one lemon into a microwave-safe bowl.
- Heat the bowl for five minutes and leave it for a couple more before you take it out.
- Then, all you have to do is wipe the mess away with a microfiber cloth!
Tip #3. Clean with vinegar
An alternative product to clean the inside of your microwave is white vinegar. This kitchen staple is even more acidic than lemon juice, so getting rid of even tough grime will be easier.
Grab a microwave-safe bowl and pour two cups of water and two tablespoons of vinegar. You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the solution to cover the vinegar smell.
Then, run the microwave for five minutes and let the water and vinegar solution sit for another ten minutes. It might still be hot, so be careful when you take out the bowl! All left to do is grab a damp sponge and wipe the grime off the microwave walls.
Tip #4. Clean baked-on stains with baking soda
If you’re having difficulty getting baked-on stains out of your microwave, you’ll need a more powerful solution!
You can make a paste by mixing baking soda and water. Then, spread the paste over the food residue and leave it resting for five minutes. Once time’s up, you can grab a clean cloth and wipe the paste. Repeat this process as many times as you need.
