If you want a detailed guide on how to clean your baseboards without bending over, here is a step-by-step approach tested and approved by our cleaning professionals to help you!
Step #1. Find the perfect tool (or make your own)
Having the correct tool will make all the difference so that you don’t have to bend over. There are plenty of specialized tools to choose from, like a flexible dust mop, a dust wand, a baseboard cleaner, or even a vacuum cleaner.
However, sometimes you might not be able to afford certain tools. If this is the case, don’t worry! You can make your own baseboard cleaning tool. All you need to do is find a microfiber cloth and attach it to a broom with some rubber bands.
Step #2. Make a cleaning solution
Having a cleaning agent will make getting rid of the stains easier. To make a homemade cleaner, grab a bucket and fill it with water, then add a splash of dish soap and a cup of white vinegar.
You can leave the solution in the bucket to dip your cleaning tool in or pour some of it into a spray bottle to spritz directly on the baseboards.
Step #3. Dust and wipe
Now that you’re ready to begin cleaning your baseboards, start with dusting. You can grab your chosen tool and run it from side to side on the baseboards; this will help get most of the dust off them.
However, dusting alone is not enough. Any other dirt or stain is likely to remain. That’s why you have your homemade cleaner. Apply the solution to your cleaning tool or baseboards and wipe. Doing so will trap the remaining dust and get rid of most stains—don’t forget to clean the edges of the baseboards as well!
Step #4. Get rid of stubborn stains
You can change the vinegar ratio in your cleaning solution to remove stubborn stains. Mix two cups of water, two cups of vinegar, and a splash of dish soap.
However, if you need something stronger for stuck-on grime, try mixing four cups of water with one tablespoon of Borax. This is a more abrasive alkaline cleaner, so this will eliminate even the toughest stains.
Step #5. Prevent dust from settling
Now that your baseboards are clean, you only need to worry about keeping them that way—dust can easily settle on baseboards because they are so close to the floor!
To keep your baseboards clean for longer. Grab a few dryer sheets and attach them to your broom using a few elastic bands. The dryer sheets are made to absorb static, which usually attracts dust.
